Sorry for the late response, but yes, Weird Fiction is not only a real term; it's what Lovecraft, Greene, Smith, Derleth, and the other members of The Lovecraft Circle called their genre, which we would now consider just a subgenre of horror (cosmic horror). The New Weird genre is so named in reference to them—something isn't "new weird" just because it's strange, but because it appropriates aesthetics and tropes from 1920s pulp horror stories (China Mieville and Jeff Vandermeer are the biggest names in New Weird). This is also the reason I use the genre label cyberweird for ELDERNET, as a portmanteau of cyberpunk and new weird.
