quoteOfTheDay:
What language can describe the spectacle of a man lost in infinitely abysmal earth; pawing, twisting, wheezing; scrambling madly through sunken convolutions of immemorial blackness without an idea of time, safety, direction, or definite object? There is something hideous in it, but that is what I did. I did it for so long that life faded to a far memory, and I became one with the moles and grubs of nighted depths. Indeed, it was only by accident that after interminable writhings I jarred my forgotten electric lamp alight, so that it shone eerily along the burrow of caked loam that stretched and curved ahead.
– “The Lurking Fear,” H. P. Lovecraft, 1923
CurrentChapter: “4” + “Following the spectacle of a new character altogether”
Other: I’m finally (very slowly) retro-updating some of the panels in Chapter One, mainly for readability and color reasons.

So much nicer, and also more consistent with the style I’ve settled into with later chapters. I don’t plan to go back and change everything (“to pull a George Lucas”? Or maybe the more thematically appropriate metaphor would be memory insertion), but I also want it to be as easy to read as possible. And also not look like a different artist drew everything after the first two chapters.
I’ve been hesitant to actually use this newsletter due to a generic sense of unified futility (hence my neglecting to make an update post for Chapter 4 as I promised to in my first newsletter…), but maybe I’ll be able to justify it eventually.
